Success in Developing Nematode Resistant Potatoes

Success (over time) in developing nematode resistant potato to:

  • Globodera rostochiensis aka Golden Cyst Nematode
  • Globodera pallida aka Pale Cyst Nematode

Host resistance in industry acceptable potato varieties can be a valuable tool for combating nematode pests. Resistant varieties can reduce the amount of pesticides needed for nematode control. Targeted efforts in breeding programs can increase resistance as evidenced in raising resistant scores from 6.5 to 8 over a 5-year period.
